Akron, Ohio……On Saturday, at Turkeyfoot Lanes, in Akron, Ohio, the JTBA held it’s first ever official team tournament. Actually, it was a team tournament with a twist. 53 Bowlers participated in the inaugural event. All bowlers bowled 4 singles games. At the completion of the singles games, the field of 53 was cut to the top 42 bowlers. This is when the team event started. The top 42 bowlers were put into 14-3 person teams. Nobody knew when the day began, if they would make the cut or if they made the cut, who their teammates would be. The 14 teams bowled 5 baker games and at the end of those baker games the team, of Ryan Hanzak, Nicholas Golic, and Lorrie Decker were crowned the first ever JTBA team champions.
The feedback from the parents and spectators was awesome! There was a lot of excitement and cheering going on as the baker games were bowled.
The JTBA will for sure do this next season and will change the format to include a double elimination bracket for the advancing teams.
The JTBA will also be conducting some new surveys in the upcoming weeks to pool Team App Members on different ideas and concepts for future events.
I want to personally thank Robin & Dustin, owners of Turkeyfoot Lanes, their staff and volunteers for a very smooth event. They went over and above of what was expected of the bowling center to provide an enjoyable event for the bowlers and spectators.
